A Tale of Two New Yorks

Writer's picture: Our Reformed CongregationOur Reformed Congregation

These two gravestone rubbings tell us that, well after the British took over New Amsterdam and renamed it New York in 1664, some of our Congregants continued life in their native Dutch.

Our minister, William Jackson, preached in Dutch throughout the American Revolution and until 1789. After Jackson, our ministers preached in English.
